Have you ever experienced complete freedom? Probably not, unless you've been to Albania!

The last true wilderness in Europe will shamelessly tease your eyes with a sweeping views of bottomless valleys vigilantly guarded by soaring eagles. Its crystal clear, cerulean blue mountain rivers will sweep you off your feet and wash away your worries. Warm, sincere smiles of locals will make you feel instantly at home while you roam the land: from the most remote farmer villages, lost in time and hidden in the foggy peaks, all the way down to historical towns that still carry the memories of Illyryans that built them, Romans that conquered them, and Ottomans that once ruled them.

Get salty on the beaches of Adriatic sea, get thrilled on the slithering mountain tracks, get warm by the tamed campfire - do what you will, but you will lose a tiny shard of your heart somewhere between the Shala river and Tomorr mountain. But Albania will give you something in return - a local's smile that will not leave your face long after you left Albania!

Albania offers an abundance of adrenaline-filled gravel roads lined with stunning landscapes, tall mountain peaks and legendary valleys of Albanian Alps. Lively, warm people provide a hospitality level that is second to none. An absolutely worthwhile travel destination where off-road adventurers and overlanders get their money’s worth.

Nature sites:
Our off-road trip begins at the “Lake Skhodra Resort” campsite, near the border with Montenegro and takes us over rough slopes into the legendary valley of Teth. Our ferry ride across the Koman reservoir is filled with scenic views. We traverse endless off-road slopes along the Greek border, via Peschkopi and Voskopoje. Further south, we visit the legendary “Blue Eye” spring, spend the night in the wild Ousum Canyon and climb Mount Tomorr, a sacred pilgrimage site at an altitude of over 2200 meters.

Culture / history sites:
We will visit the beautiful old town of Berat, nicknamed “the city of a thousand windows”, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The old part of town towers majestically over the new town offering us a wonderful view of the surroundings below. A plunge in the thermal springs of Benja is just one of many other stages in our diverse off-road trip through the land of the Skipetaren. Our tour ends in the south of Albania. On a clear day one can see Corfu from here.

Living conditions:
Usually we spend the night in an idyllic wild camp site surrounded by unscathed nature. We enjoy the evenings in good company by the campfire. As it can get colder at night at higher altitudes, warm clothing and good personal camping equipment should be available. During the tour we spend two nights in typical hotels with dinner in a restaurant and try traditional Albanian cuisine.

Driving conditions:
On this trip we mostly drive on hard, stony gravel roads through fascinating mountains and experience the grand panoramas of Albanian Alps, the Lura National Park and the foothills of the Greek Pindos Mountains. Occasionally we will encounter more challenging snowy or muddy tracks that we will have to overcome together. On this tour we reach the highest navigable point in Albania at an altitude of over 2400 meters. 4WD is necessary for all the routes, 20cm and above ground clearance is sufficient. This tour is equally appealing for off-road beginners, overlanders and 4×4 adventurers interested in exploration and culture.
